Business Profit & Pricing Tools for Africa
A seller in Accra prices a phone case at GHS 45 because that’s what the last one sold for. She doesn’t know her landed cost per unit, what MTN MoMo took off the top, or what she’d actually need to charge to turn a profit this month.
This is the most common mistake in African small business: pricing off what a competitor charged, not off what you actually keep. Revenue tells you how much moved. Margin tells you what’s left.
These business profit calculator tools for Africa answer the second question. Set your price, find your break-even point, and see what fees and currency swings are really costing you, before you commit to a price.

FAQ
What is the difference between margin and markup?
Markup is added on top of your cost. Margin is what’s left of your selling price after cost. A 50% markup and a 50% margin are not the same number, confusing the two is one of the most common pricing mistakes small businesses make.
How do I know if my business is actually profitable?
Revenue minus cost of goods gets you gross profit. Subtract everything else, transport, fees, spoilage, packaging, and rent, and what’s left is your real profit. Most businesses only track the first number.
Do mobile money and card fees really affect my margin that much?
On a single sale, rarely. Across dozens or hundreds of transactions a month, fees compound into one of the largest line items in the business, often larger than owners expect until they actually add it up.
How often should I recalculate my break-even point?
Any time a major cost changes: rent, supplier prices, currency movement, or a new fee structure from your payment provider. A break-even point calculated six months ago on old costs isn’t telling you anything useful today.
Fee structures verified against Stripe, PayPal, Safaricom M-Pesa and MTN MoMo published rate cards. Exchange rates sourced from open.er-api.com, last checked August 2026. Fees and rates change. Confirm current figures before making a pricing decision that depends on them.
