Text Formatter & Case Converter
What the Case Converter Does
Typing in the wrong case is a small problem that eats real time. A paragraph typed with Caps Lock on, a customer list exported in all capitals, or a headline that needs consistent capitalization all take minutes to fix by hand. A case converter does it instantly and removes the retyping.
The tool supports four formats:
- Sentence case: capitalizes the first letter of each sentence and lowercases the rest. Use it for emails, blog paragraphs and product descriptions.
- lowercase: converts every letter to small letters. Use it for email addresses, URLs, tags and database keys.
- UPPERCASE: converts every letter to capitals. Use it for legal notices, labels, codes and short emphasis lines.
- Title Case: capitalizes the first letter of each major word. Use it for headlines, report titles and name lists.
How to Use the Case Converter
- Paste your text into the input box. The word and character count updates as you type.
- Click a format button: Sentence case, lowercase, UPPERCASE or Title Case.
- Click Copy to Clipboard and paste the result into your document, spreadsheet or CMS.
- Click Clear to start over with new text.
You can run the same text through several formats. If Title Case does not look right, switch to Sentence case and compare.
When a Case Converter Saves Time
- Fixing Caps Lock mistakes. Convert a paragraph typed in capitals back to normal sentences without retyping it.
- Cleaning imported data. Customer lists, product names and addresses often arrive in mixed case. Standardize them before importing into a CRM, a property management system or an accounting tool.
- Normalizing email addresses. Convert a list to lowercase so duplicates match when you deduplicate.
- Formatting headlines. Apply title case to blog post titles, report names and slide headings in one pass.
- Preparing labels and signage. Switch short text to uppercase for packaging, shelf labels and printed notices.
Title Case vs Sentence Case
Title case capitalizes most words and suits headlines. Sentence case capitalizes only the first word and proper nouns, and it reads more naturally in body text, subject lines and interface labels. Many style guides also leave short words such as “and”, “of” and “the” in lowercase inside a title. A case converter applies simple rules, so review the result when a headline contains acronyms, brand names or surnames such as McDonald, which need manual attention.
Limits to Know
- The converter changes letter case only. It does not fix spelling, spacing or punctuation.
- Acronyms and brand names that use unusual capitalization may need a manual fix after conversion.
- Very large blocks of text are best converted in sections so you can review each one.
The JavaScript string methods behind most browser-based converters are documented in the MDN reference for String.prototype.toUpperCase.
