What the Time Calculator Returns

Enter a start date and time and an end date and time. The time calculator then shows three results:

  • Exact breakdown: the gap as days, hours and minutes.
  • Total hours: the full duration expressed in hours, useful for SLA reporting.
  • Total days: the full duration as a decimal number of days.

It handles month ends, leap years and AM/PM boundaries for you, which are the points where manual counting usually goes wrong.

How to Use the Time Calculator

  1. Set the start with the date picker and the clock input.
  2. Set the end the same way.
  3. Read the result. The breakdown updates as soon as both values are filled in.
  4. Click Clear Dates to run another calculation.

Worked example: from October 1, 2026 to December 25, 2026 is 85 days. If you add start and end times, the time calculator extends the result to hours and minutes.

Practical Uses for a Time Calculator

  • SLA compliance. Check that a support ticket was answered or resolved inside the contracted window by calculating the exact time between opened and closed timestamps.
  • Project milestones. Count the days between a kickoff and a hard deadline so you can allocate resources realistically.
  • Shift and payroll checks. Verify the exact hours and minutes a contractor spent on site before you approve a timesheet.
  • Event and hospitality planning. Measure the window between check-out and the next check-in, or between a catering delivery and service time.
  • Contract and notice periods. Confirm how many days remain until a renewal, warranty end or notice deadline.

Why Manual Date Counting Fails

Counting days on a calendar looks simple until the period crosses a month with 31 days, a short February or a leap year. A one day error in a notice period or a billing cycle can trigger a penalty or a missed deadline. A time calculator removes that risk and gives you a number you can paste into a report.

If you work with clocks that must match a reference, the NIST Time and Frequency Division publishes the official time standards used in the United States.

Tips for Accurate Results

  • Use the same time zone for both the start and end values. If the two events happened in different zones, convert them first with the World Clock.
  • Include the time of day when hours matter. Date-only results treat both values as the same time.
  • For business hours only, subtract weekends and holidays separately, since this tool counts every elapsed hour.

Time Calculator FAQ

How do I calculate the days between two dates?

Enter the start date and the end date in the time calculator. The Total Days field shows the gap, and the breakdown shows the same gap in days, hours and minutes.

Does the time calculator count weekends?

Yes. It counts every elapsed day and hour. Subtract weekends and holidays yourself if you need business days only.

Can I calculate hours between two times on the same day?

Yes. Set the same date for both values and enter different times. The result shows the elapsed hours and minutes.

Is my data saved?

No. The calculation happens in your browser and nothing is stored.
